What Your Japanese Name?

Hmm, not sure if you’ve done this already, but this was new for me.

My japanese name is 猿渡 Saruwatari (monkey on a crossing bridge) 駿 Shun (fast person).

Well, basically that’s my Japanese name based on my English one (or more accurately, my Chinese one), based on this nifty Japanese name generator over at Rum and Monkey.

But I wonder how it works. I get Sawatari Shun by entering my last name then first name. If instead I enter my first name and then my last name, this is what I get:

My japanese name is 石丸 Ishimaru (round stone) 亜門 Amon (asian gates).

I’m pretty sure that it takes some form of hash of your inputted name and gender, and then uses that to choose a value on a (rather limited) table of last and first names. That is to say, it’s nearly random, but you’ll always get the same result for the same input.

This is messed up… if I put my last name then first name i get 猿渡 Saruwatari (monkey on a crossing bridge) 駿 Shun (fast person). If i switch it around i get 石丸 Ishimaru (round stone) 翼 Tsubasa (wing). I highly doubt that your name is similar to mine

Yeah, I’m quite sure our names are different, lol. I think Elyscape is right, it probably considers the number of characters in your name and a few other variables.

坂本 Sakamoto (book of the hill) 美晴 Miharu (beautiful clear sky) is what i get if I put my first name first and last name last.

坂本 Sakamoto (book of the hill) 明日香 Asuka (fragrance of the bright day) is what I get if I put my last name first and first name last.
