Who gives a crap if its copied or not, I could care less about the NBA and their copyrights as they’re fucking making way more then whatever this anime has ever seen. And besides this anime doesn’t hurt the NBA in anyway but rather promote it.

It’s just the action poses that are similar. The manga did not use copyrighted logos. I think this just shows that poor journalism is used to sell magazines. No one would look twice if it’s just mention the similarity of Slam Dunk with NBA photos. But when the word ‘plagiarism’ is used it would garner a lot more attention.

Hmm, I suppose such an argument does hold water. But I think it is a fallacy to assume that “anyone uses it that means that they’re copying or tracing it”. That’s because other people could draw based on those images, but they wouldn’t have to imitate it so accurately - as I said before.

You are right there^^. But I still wonder, coz I cant understand what it says there anyway… NBA has a long history and many pictures taken, so of course if you lok at 1 pic in SlamDunk, and try to find something similiar in NBA, it wouldnt be so hard?

Actually, the practice of copying completely is slightly wrong. If you look at the NBA pictures, there are a number that are copyrighted.

Secondly, it does put the mangaka’s skills and creativity as an artist in a negative light. After all, even though it is always necessary to base things on real life, is it necessary for such complete similarity? In some of the pictures, it’s almost as if the pictures were “traced” - which is why the Geocities site hosting the comparison has a folder name of slamdunk_trace.

Err, excuse me, but the what’s wrong with that, even if it’s true? SlamDunk is a sport manga/anime so the creator cant just imagine it, he must base on real things somewhere. And those pictures, I believe, are not copyrighted or something. Like you cant do something look like this, or cant draw something look like this because it;s in NBA. That would be ridiculous.
