Paid Anime Download Sites?

Does anyone use paid anime download sites? It is actually quite an interesting question, given the number of free anime download sources available all over the net, from the ubiquitous Bittorrent to the much-loved free HTTP download sites.

From what I see, the primary benefit from paid anime download sites should be convenience. Paid anime download sites should be a one-stop archive for anime fansubs, with proper categorisation and fast servers.

Based on the response of members of various anime forums I visit, there are two paid anime services that would actually be value for money. They are:

1) National Anime [http://national-anime.com]
- huge collection
- fast speeds
- ‘industry’-standard monthly fees at US$ 5 per month

2) Anime FTP [http://danimeftp.com]
- huge collection
- fast speeds
- FTP only
- very friendly and helpful administrator who fulfills requests for J/K Dramas or anime fansubs very quickly
- US$6 per month

Anyway, that’s what I hear. I might be tempted to try one of these if free anime download sites start disappearing, but not at the moment.

anime, animation, paid, downloads

I’ve been using (Download)Anime FTP for more than a year now, and indeed it’s an excellent service. New unlicensed eps are up quickly(as well as loads of dorama, OSTs etc) & the owner (Dow) is very helpful with problems/requests etc. I’d highly recommend it if you have trouble with BT (ie college firewall). Average d/l speeds for me are around 330kb/s compared to sad old 20-30kb/s(via tunneling) with BT. I really don’t mind paying $5 a month, seeing as HTTP sites don’t last very long as they gain popularity and their bandwidth usage then goes overboard(ie fansub.tv and animeu.ds).

Yeah, I was looking through the forums and saw many positive comments. But I kind of prefer HTTP downloading due to the frequent disconnections of my lousy home internet connection, which it does not provide.

Mind you FTP supports automatic retrying and resuming. It is actually easier than http because the clients are free.

Indeed, FTP does support automatic retrying and resuming. However, frequent disconnections like mine will mean that my FTP client will have to wait until my previous connection times out (because downloadanime’s unmetered system limits you to 1 connection - which is reasonable to counter account sharers).

Moreover, I think that you will have to admit that HTTP download programs are far more advanced than their FTP counterparts when it comes to downloading, e.g. listing files, scheduling, multiple connections (though not really relevant here) etc.

If that wasn’t enough, HTTP is a faster protocol in terms of the execution of commands. Listing directories and searching for files is much, much faster and easier.

Lastly, in response to your free ftp clients, there are tons of free HTTP programs as well.

Well, that’s a length reply, lol. But just backing my assertion with some solid points.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I just registered at danimeftp.com to try it out. Let’s see if I can get rid of my phobia of FTPs due to my useless internet connection. In any case, I do have to backup my recommendations, so let’s see.

Hmm, lets just say it will be FTP regardless of its cons — I’m too lazy to make the site secure and efficient for HTTP. While HTTP programs may be more “advanced”, I think its not really needed. All you really need is queuing. as for the connection timing out, I can modify the time-out parameter for your specific account if you wish.

In the end, FTP is more friendly to the admin than it is to the user.

Yeah, that’s a definite. FTP’s should technically use less server resources as well.
