Anime Podcasting and Podcasts

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

The trend in podcasting is continuing all right. We now see podcasts even for anime - something I would say is podcastable, but not one I would expect to see many podcasts for. But here they are:

1) anime.mikomi.org’s What’s New in Anime Fansubs Show
- At 10 podcasts so far, with each podcast introducing a recent fansub (e.g. Mai-Otome, Blood+).

2) World of Anime Podcast
- I would say they have done about 20+ podcasts (a series of podcasts + specials).
- In general, podcasts are primarily related to anime news, with each episode including some sort of Top 10 in anime sales and/or rentals for that week as well.
- Has quite a bit of unnecessary (non-anime) extras though

3) I Like Anime Podcast
- At episode 10 at the moment, with podcasts concerning a variety of entertainment topics (anime included).
- Specifically, podcasts contain reviews and news on manga, anime, hentai, books, games, and movies.

So, what did I miss? I’m pretty sure this is not extensive.

Another Japanese Name Generator

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Well, I was interested, so… This one seems to provide a greater variety of Japanese translations. Bear with me for today. Anyways, I’ll put up the ending video of Trinity Blood tomorrow, or maybe earlier.

Your Japanese Name Is…

Senichi Rokujochigusa

That was with my last name, then my first name. Now for the other way round:

Your Japanese Name Is…

What Your Japanese Name?

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Hmm, not sure if you’ve done this already, but this was new for me.

My japanese name is 猿渡 Saruwatari (monkey on a crossing bridge) 駿 Shun (fast person).
Take your real japanese name generator! today!
Created with Rum and Monkey’s Name Generator Generator.

Well, basically that’s my Japanese name based on my English one (or more accurately, my Chinese one), based on this nifty Japanese name generator over at Rum and Monkey.

But I wonder how it works. I get Sawatari Shun by entering my last name then first name. If instead I enter my first name and then my last name, this is what I get:

My japanese name is 石丸 Ishimaru (round stone) 亜門 Amon (asian gates).

Wierd. What about you?

[Reviews] [Info] [Downloads] Prayers

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

Title: Prayers
Year: 2005
Total Episodes: 4 (OVA)
Categories: Science Fiction, Music
Fansubbed Version Watched: AnimeSource
Episodes I Watched So Far: 1
Episodes Available ATM: 1

The story starts in 2014, where Shibuya (a Japanese city/district) has become independent of Japan. It is a city filled with rubble and chaos. However, it is in this city that Prayers exist. Prayers are basically musicians that battle through music, where implants to their heads amplify sound signals to the extent that losers of the battle may very well die. All this as a career of course.

Personal Comments:
I’ve uploaded a couple of short clips to provide some sort of preview to the series that words cannot express. On to the series itself, for one, I feel that it this first episode managed to setup a possibly interesting storyline. Of course, battling through music is nothing new, with Macross 7 also based on this premise. But, this series is definitely going to be more gruesome (Not to the level of Gantz (uncensored), but still…).

Moreover, it is only an OVA with 4 episodes. Therefore, I can’t really see how much “story” can fit in although the first ep. seems to allude to quite a bit.
