Anime on IRC?
I’ve always used IRC (Internet Relay Chat) to download my anime whenever I can. IRC downloads, while theoretically (based on IRC code) not as fast as FTPs or direct HTTP downloads, tends to be a rich source of anime downloads. If you do not already use IRC, it would be good to learn, even if your Bittorrent works fine. You’ll find not only faster downloads (for certain anime) but IRC is also a less memory intensive software (compared to BT).
In this post, I will assume that you already know how to use IRC XDCC bots and point you to a few XDCC lists that I particularly love, i.e. lists from fast and fat XDCC bots. Maybe if there is a demand, I’ll put up an illustrated IRC anime download tutorial (actually, there’s quite a few on the the web already).
XDCC Bot Lists:
1) http://webpost.net/ao/AonE/
- The bot list of AnimeOne’s “premier” xdcc bots. Although the bots have a minimum download speed that you must adhere to, you’ll find that the bots are the unparalled archives of AnimeOne episodes. In fact A|Distro has “interesting” (e.g. popular non-anime TV series episodes for example) non-AnimeOne downloads too.
2) http://www.anime-hq.org/xdccinfo.php
- This is AnimeHQ’s site for their XDCC bot lists. There are many good bots here filled with high quality anime.
3) http://www.shinsen-subs.org/?page=bots
- Shinsen-Subs XDCC bot lists. There are tons of good bots here for all the Shinsen-Subs fansubs (which is a lot, mind you).
So, these are a few lists that I use. There are many more, but I just wanted to share a few to test the waters, so to speak.

[…] We’ve seen XDCC pack lists on this blog before, e.g. those for Aone, Shinsen-Subs, and Anime-HQ bots. That was when I first tried introducing IRC as an alternative means for downloading anime (that is, an alternative to direct download sites). […]
