Introduction
Bleach, though exceptionally popular as an anime series, was first introduced and popularised as a manga serialised in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in Japan.

Like its counterpart Naruto (also exceptionally popular), Bleach is primarily an action-fighting anime series aimed at males (a.k.a. shounen anime), but unlike what many of its detractors claim, it does have an intricate underlying plot.

However, in recent months, its producers have succumbed to filler arc-stuffing due to the fact that the anime plot is quickly catching up with that of the manga.


Plot
Fundamentally, the Bleach storyline focuses on the adventures of Kurosaki Ichigo - a normal student who becomes a (pseudo) shinigami (a.k.a. death god) as a result of his encounter with a hollow (evil spirit) and the shinigami who came to destroy that hollow, Kuchiki Rukia.

However, a one-liner is insufficient to describe Bleach’s plot in its entirety. While it does begin as a very simple series, with hollow-killing being the primary event in early episodes, it soon involves an intricate conspiracy in Soul Society (the home of Shinigami) resulting in the capture and near-death of Rukia. In this arc, Ichigo develops most of his abilities, though with significant help from his naturally-high reiatsu (raw spirit power).

It is the ending of this arc that leads to the beginning of a long filler arc, which has yet to see a conclusion even now.
