Anime Eden – Anime Direct Download Site
Just Another Anime Direct Download Site™ (no negative connotation intended).
On hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have used the statement above because Anime Eden isn’t exactly normal. For one, it requires you to use Internet Explorer to download their anime episodes. Secondly, all episodes are zipped – so they’ll have to be uncompressed upon download completion. Thirdly, download accelerators can’t be used (tested with Getright Pro and Net Transport)
But other than these three quirks, the site is solid. Download speeds were good for me.
1. Anime Eden
- Speed: Quite Fast
- Content: 19 ongoing (e.g. Black Lagoon, Ergo Proxy, etc.) and completed (e.g. Gundam Seed Destiny, Cowboy Bebop, etc.) anime series.
- Update Frequency: Above Average
- Video Format: .avi (HQ)
- Note: Free registration required (e-mail confirmation not required). Use of Internet Explorer required to download anime episodes. Episodes are compressed into .zip files. Download accelerators cannot be used.

Once you click a download link, you’d better save it. If you do not save the file, their system still counts it as a download against you. Then, you’ll have to wait five minutes to click another download link.
It has Cowboy Bebop! Yay!

Darn, there’s a 5 min limit? Sheesh, I didn’t realise that.
Thx.

Thanks for reviewing us. If you go now and visit Anime-Eden there is no browser requirement and only a 30 second timeout! However probably on money I’m gonna probably re-implement the 5 minute timeout. Gotta protect the site from media leeching hoggers

Lol, good point.
But don’t worry about the timeout. I don’t think it’s that bad.
The browser requirement, on the other hand, is… rather problematic.
June 26th, 2006 10:33
The browser requirement seemed kind of sketchy, in my opinion. What can IE do that Firefox cannot? Oh, yes! It can use ActiveX to send a virus to your PC! Plus, IE can put one of those dancing purple creatures on my desktop, whether I choose to download it or not…
Good show on fixing the browser requirements.
(It takes about 5 minutes or more to download an episode of anime on your site, anyway. Activating the 5 minute timeout via clicking a download link and then deciding not to download the file was kind of annoying, though. I guess that’s what I get for being indecisive!)

Hmm, I think the IE requirement was for anti-hotlinking purposes, but I could be wrong.
June 26th, 2006 17:54
I thought that’s what .htaccess is for. ^___~
June 26th, 2006 18:37
Lol, yeah. In fact, in most cases, it is IE that causes problems with .htaccess anti-hotlinking methods due to due to referrers not being sent properly in headers.
But I remember reading somewhere (mrpc.us I think) that people using anything but IE may be prevented from downloading stuff when some sort of anti-hotlinking method is enabled.
Of course, this is just conjecture, and the IE browser limitation is best gone anyhow.

Just use the IE tab extention in Firefox. That’s what I use. You still get the protection of FF with the ability to use IE.
June 29th, 2006 01:56
Hmm, I’m not so sure about the protection part since IE tab largely embeds IE wholesale into FF tabs. While there is integration between the two engines, I believe it is minor at best.
But indeed, IE tab is a great extension for viewing IE-only pages in FF.

Anyone want some tips on how to download anime fast and easy from Anime-Eden? First, when it says download manager’s don’t work… It’s kinda wrong… If you want to get the anime without physically being there and clicking on the download links, just use Free Download Manager… This is the one I use, and it works with Fire fox… Anyway, you have to configure it to download one at a time, or it won’t download properly… So, after you have the download manager set up go to anime-eden (this works with both Fire Fox and IE) when you navigate to the series you want to download, what you can do is use tabs to open each download page. Then just rightclick on the download link and download with free download manager, and do this with the rest of the tabs… This way you can queue up the downloads, and, if you set up Free download manager right, it will download the anime properly.
