Anime-Centric.NET – Anime Direct Downloads Site
For those who want a “full-fledged” anime direct downloads site, i.e. .avi files (no .rmvb) and with their own media servers (no free file hosts), here’s one to satiate your appetite (I hope):
- Speed: Quite Fast
- Content: 5 anime series – both ongoing (e.g. Bleach, Eyeshield21, .HACK//Sign, etc.) and completed series (e.g. Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, etc.) – and 1 movie (Naruto Movie 2)
- Video Format: .avi (HQ)
- Note: Hassle-free site, i.e. no registration or forum posting required to access downloads.
P.S.: Nope. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to say that anime DDL sites that use free file hosts or provide .rmvb files are not full-fledged DDL sites. I just needed a short term to describe those type of sites.

You could just use acronyms:
i.e. LQDDL, Low Quality Direct Download; and FFHDL, Free File Host Download
Then again, I’m not very good at making up acronyms.
Sites that use free file hosts are OK, in my opinion. However, I run at the sight of RMVB. >_>

Anonymous: phew, that’s good. Almost thought I was posting another unnecessary “extra”.
lewdishLoki: lol, good method. But the problem with it is that new guys won’t understand. I could use an abbrevation system to link those acronyms to a glossary, but that’s even more of a hassle compared to making long terms.

How about just sorting them into HQ D/L site or LQ/MQ D/L site.. i guess people understands what HQ, MQ and LQ means..
May 27th, 2006 04:52
Hmm, good idea again, but I don’t think it’s very fair for the sites involved to put HQ or LQ in the post title. It forces a negative first impression even before the sites positive points are highlighted (e.g. tons of different series, good community).
Admittedly though, my placing of .rmvb in the post title basically already does this evil act…

I think RMVB is evil… Such low quality.
*looks at Bruce Willis*
“I see artifacts…”

Rmvb si not so ebil..
I’ve downloaded lots of rmvb with good quality
especially ones encoded in teh-anime. Their Ai yori Aoshi has good quality
maybe you could just download .avi for animes that you want to archive in DVDs or for your favorites
and for one shots, watch and delete.. rmvb

sNooZe-kun:
The problem occurs when one takes a XviD or DivX encode and re-encodes it in Real format. Then, you get artifacts of artifacts. All of the Real media anime videos I’ve seen are like this.
If someone were to encode raw video (i.e. no lossy compression, not whether it has subtitles) into Real format, then it would probably be less of an issue. However, that would mean that you’d have to have external subs or that the fansub group decided to make Real encodes *and* had access to raw video.
ZMAng:
I think it’s that comment.com business that made my comments in your other post mess up with the less-than and greater-than signs. My comments are a real mess. ;___;
OT:
And why do I keep going back and forth from “lewdishLoki” and “laughingLoki” in my comments? *sigh* I’ve used both handles before, and now I’m confused.

sNooze: Hehe, good idea, but good .rmvb is hard to find.
lewdishloki: Hmm, few would actually encode directly into .rmvb, so I doubt the state of .rmvb will change anytime soon.
But I think one good reason for that is the .mp4 format, which I’ve to admit results in pretty small files (120MB?), and of course, excellent quality.
Lol, yeah I’m confused as well. There was even once where you used lewishloki. Lol
.
Eeks. CoComment is causing problems? Aiks, I’ll check it out. Sry for the trouble.
