Misha.Distrocity - Anime Direct Download Site

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Update: Misha.Distrocity has been consolidated into Rorikonjyanai/404 Not Found.

Here’s another hassle-free, i.e. no registration or forum posting necessary, anime direct download site from the owners of LMTC-Anime.com (formerly AnimeBlues.com).

It’s surprisingly fast even though it’s only running on a 15mbit uplink, but that’s probably due to the few leechers on it at the moment (3 or so on average). :) Edit: According to one of its admins, it’s actually running on a 100mbit uplink. Sorry for my incorrect reporting.

1. Misha.Distrocity

  • Speed: Quite Fast
  • Content: 16+ ongoing (e.g. Gundam SEEDCE73 Stargazer, Akagi, Inukami, etc.) and 11+ completed (e.g. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Air, Futari Ecchi, etc.) anime series - with particular focus on anime fansubbed by Mendoi and Triad.
  • Update Frequency: Quite Frequent
  • Video Format: .avi (HQ), .mkv (HQ), .mp4 (HQ)
  • Note: Hassle-free site, i.e. no registration or forum posting required to access downloads. However, download accelerators are not supported (tested with GetRight and NetTransport).

Nanashi-Fansubs XDCC Bots: Eureka seveN Haven

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

For some reason or another, I suddenly got interested in watching Eureka seveN again yesterday - after an extremely long pause (I’ve only seen up to episode 4). So, I dug into my piles of CDs/DVDs only to find that the remaining eps. were missing.

I didn’t want to download them through humungous batch torrents, so I turned to anime direct download sites… only to find no fast DDL site with Eureka 7. And, turning to IRC, I found that Toybox - a popular XDCC bot serving Eureka 7 - had disappeared.

Luckily, Nanashi-Fansubs still had a trio of fast XDCC bots serving the series - all of which I’m currently using to download the tens of episodes I need to watch to catch up with the series.

Here are their pack lists:

1) Nanashi-Fansubs XDCC Pack Lists

  • Usual IRC Nicknames: Nanashi|Anemone, Nanashi|Honey, Nanashi|LFO
  • Usual Locations (IRC Server and Channels): #nanashi @ irc.rizon.net
  • Content: For Anemone, all episodes of Eureka seveN. For Honey, only recent episodes of Eureka 7. For LFO, all episodes of Eureka 7, Ichigo Mashimaro, as well as some episodes of Jinki Extend, Full Metal Alchemist, School Rumble and Noein.
  • No. of Download Slots: 12 for Anemone, 50 for Honey, 30 for LFO
  • Update Frequency: Varies
  • Video Format: .avi (HQ)

What’s the Difference Between AnimePremium and AnimePrivate?

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Can someone point to me any real differences between AnimePremium and AnimePrivate (both pay-for-use anime direct download sites)?

Invitations to both have appeared by email from the same person, i.e. the owner of AnimeUpload - which both sites are affilated to. Both are hosting mostly the same anime (read their download lists from top to bottom, and you’ll see what I mean). Both seem to be using the same underlying content management system (check the path names). And both seem to have the same template style. Heck, both charge the same monthly fees.

I would go so far to say that both might be hosting anime on the same servers, and are merely two fronts for the same service. If this is true, then it’s darn “weird” that AnimePrivate has discounted long-term pricing plans (6-months and above) which AnimePremium does not. And I’m barely even scratching the surface here.

Or am I just damn paranoid (because nameservers and contact information on WHOIS seem to be widely different)?

Os2 Anime - Anime on YouTube

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Os2 Anime - a component of sorts of Keiichi Anime Forever - aggregates anime episodes hosted on YouTube, providing a one-stop area to watch anime online, i.e. stream anime.

It has a large collection of anime series, and this collection was built ground up from admin (primarily) and user submissions - rather than through blatant link copying from other sites (which some YouTube-powered anime sites have done).

In fact, its collection has decreased substantially (137 series, to be exact) due to link copying by other sites (which was then discovered by CNET and then, by YouTube).

Note: This isn’t a direct download site. It’s an “anime streaming site” (any better name?), so some criteria judged below may not be completely relevant or in the same context as a normal direct download site. For example, speed here would refer to the speed of buffering and streaming, rather than download speed Edit: Although it’s an anime streaming site, it seems that its possible to actually download the anime from YouTube using the VideoDownloader Firefox extension or site (thanks to LewdishLoki for the tip).

1. Os2 Anime

  • YouTube Speed: Above Average to Quite Fast (based on general consensus rather than my own testing)
  • Content: 162 ongoing (e.g. TOKKO, Gakuen Heaven, xxxHolic, etc.) and completed (e.g. Trigun, Tokyo Underground, Tokyo Mew Mew, etc.) anime series and movies (e.g. Final Fantasy VII: Last Order, Initial D 3rd Stage, etc.).
  • Update Frequency: Unknown
  • Video Format: YouTube format (but if you download it using the VideoDownloader extension or site, you’ll get a .flv file)
  • Note: Hassle-free site, i.e. no registration or forum posting required to access anime. Anime is streamed directly, and must be watched online. Episodes cannot be downloaded. As such, for slow connections, this service isn’t suitable as a lot of buffering and re-buffering might be required in order to watch an episode. (Refer to edit made above)

Edit: Post corrected based on info from 98s.

Codain Anime - Anime Direct Downloads Forum

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006
Site Is Dead

This anime direct download forum suggests that it provides anime through both its own media server and free file hosts, but I can’t seem to find any links to anime uploaded to free file hosts at the site.

So, until I’m informed otherwise, I’ll assume that Codain Anime does not provide any anime on free file hosts. Update: The site’s admin has clarified that they do not place anything on free file hosts.

1. Codain Anime

  • Speed: Unknown (sorry, didn’t have time to make the 5 posts, but it’s admin suggests speeds of around 200KB/s)
  • Content: Around 20 ongoing (e.g. Welcome to the NHK, Ouran, Tonagura, Zero no Tsukaima, etc.) and 10 completed anime series (e.g. Fate-Stay Night, Azumanga Daioh, Air, Suzumiya Haruhi, etc.).
  • Posts Required to Access Downloads: 5 posts
  • Posts Required Per Episode: None
  • Update Frequency: Quite Frequent
  • Video Format: .avi (HQ), .mp4 (HQ) [not completely sure, please correct if wrong]
  • Note: Free registration required (e-mail confirmation not required). 5 forum posts required to access downloads section.

AnimeDump.org - Anime Direct Download Site

Site Is Dead

Here’s a hassle-free (as in no registration or forum posting required) anime direct download site that should interest quite a number of you - that is, considering the number of comments I’ve been getting on Prince of Tennis. AnimeDump.org is hosting 10 different anime titles, with one of them being the latest 100 or so episodes of PoT.

The site is still quite new, so speeds are still quite fast. I’d expect that to change as the hordes of PoT fans charge in though since few sites are willing to host PoT hassle-free.

1. AnimeDump.org

  • Speed: Quite Fast
  • Content: 6 ongoing (e.g. Prince of Tennis, Utawarerumono, Zero no Tsukaima, etc.) and 4 completed (e.g. Shadow Skills, Honey and Clover, Haruhi Suzumiya, etc.) anime series
  • Update Frequency: Quite Frequent
  • Video Format: .avi (HQ), .mp4 (HQ)
  • Note: Hassle-free site, i.e. no registration or forum posting required to access downloads.

HSB Site - An Update

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006
Site Is Dead

I reported on HSB Site’s temporary anime direct downloads last month, with the thought that the site would end that service by this month.

It seems, however, that I was mistaken. It’s not that the entire direct downloads service was going to be taken down, but its forum posting requirement was going to be reestablished. From what I can gather, HSB Site doesn’t impose any forum posting requirement until 75% of that month’s bandwidth allocation has been used up. Once that happens, a forum posting requirement is set to decrease the amount of bandwidth being used. But when the next month’s bandwidth allocation comes in, the forum posting requirement is removed.

At the moment, this requirement seems to be off. The selection of anime series they provide through their own media servers has also been changed since my feature last month.

1) HSB Site

  • Media Server Speed: Average (slightly better than last month)
  • Content: 8+ completed anime series (e.g. Digimon Frontier Season 4, Ranma 1/2 Season 1, Street Fighter 2V etc.) and several movies (e.g. Stret Fighter Alpha The Animated Movie, Street Fighter Alpha Generations 2005, etc.) on their own server, and about 70+ more (both ongoing and completed anime) on free file hosts (4300+ episodes in total).
  • Update Frequency: Average
  • Video Format: .rmvb (LQ to MQ) or .avi (HQ) or .mkv (HQ)
  • Note: Free registration required, but forum posting is not required at the moment. When 75% of their bandwidth has been used up, a 1 forum post per download requirement is enacted until next month’s bandwidth allocation comes in.
